I work with individuals and couples. With an extensive knowledge of a wide range of theories and approaches, I've worked with clients from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds, presenting with depression, anxiety, self-esteem or relationship problems. I am also experienced in working with more serious mental health problems including psychosis, schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder. including those at risk of suicide and/or self-harm. I am experienced in both short and long term therapy.

I do my utmost to keep up to date with current legislation and research relevant to the field of mental health and counselling and to continually improve my knowledge and practice through reading, reflection, supervision and continuous professional development activities.

I am a qualified clinical supervisor and have been supervising counsellors, trainees and other helping professionals for approximately 12 years, both individually and in groups. I have accrued approximately 600 supervision hours to date.

As a senior counsellor/psychotherapist in counselling services in both private and voluntary sectors and at the university of Essex I have accrued approximately 8,000 clinical hours to date. 

I have been involved in the development and delivery of psychoeducational workshops for clients suffering from stress, anxiety, depression and low self-esteem as well as assertiveness and mindfulness workshops.  I have also run CPD workshops in solution focussed therapy, motivational interviewing, assessment, ethics. mindfulness and reflective writing for counselling colleagues.

I have published an article in Therapy Today, the BACP journal, on Clinical Responsibility and contributed to "Searching my Soul through Cyberspace" - Bolton, G., Field, V. and Thompson, K. (eds) (2011) Writing Routes London: Jessica Kingsley Publishers, a book on therapeutic writing.
